What am I buying?
A one-time SuperWriter desktop license. Starter and Pro both include the complete app; AI usage is paid with credits unless a Pro user configures BYO API.
Do I need my own OpenAI or Claude API key?
No for Starter. SuperWriter uses the built-in AI credit gateway. Pro users may optionally bring an official or OpenAI-compatible API route.
What spends credits?
AI model calls spend credits. Editing files, opening projects, LaTeX preview, templates, exports, local history, and non-AI workspace features do not.
Is 5,000 credits enough to start a paper?
Yes for a real start: planning, polishing, captions, abstracts, and several section-level tasks are practical with Starter. Full cost depends on document length, model choice, materials read, and revision rounds.
Why use credits instead of a flat AI bundle?
Research tasks can range from a small paragraph edit to a multi-million-token review. Credits keep usage transparent and avoid hiding heavy model costs in a vague package.
Is my research data private?
Your project files live in the desktop workspace. When you use AI or MCP tools, the content you send to those tools is processed by the configured external services or SuperWriter gateway.
Can I move my license to another machine?
One license binds to one device. If you need to move machines, contact support for a manual reset.
